how this whole thing happened

Emma-Nicole's Story

From a nine-year-old with a crochet hook and a YouTube tutorial to a teenage artisan shipping mascots worldwide.

Chapter 1 — The First Loop

It all started when Emma-Nicole was nine years old. No classes, no teacher — just a crochet hook, some yarn, and a phone propped up with YouTube tutorials. She taught herself the basics one stitch at a time, unravelling and re-doing the same piece dozens of times until it was right.

Her first creation was a simple amigurumi ball. It was lopsided and the stitches were uneven, but she was hooked — literally. Within weeks she had moved on to animals, then characters, then her own designs.

Chapter 2 — When the World Fell Apart

[This section tells the story of a difficult period in Emma-Nicole's life when she was 11, she lost her father, her grandparents and her beloved family dog - it all for a very short time. She was present when it happened, and the experience changed everything. This part of the story will be written by Emma-Nicole when she's ready.]

What saved her was the tennis and also the same thing that had always brought her peace — the rhythmic motion of the hook, the soft texture of yarn between her fingers. Crocheting became her therapy, her anchor. Every stitch was a small act of healing.

Chapter 3 — From Therapy to Trademark

What began as healing transformed into something bigger. Emma-Nicole's creations caught the attention of people around her. First friends, then local businesses, then international organizations. The International Junior Tennis Series asked her to create their official mascot — Jetty, the tiger.

Over 30 Jetties now travel the world with young tennis champions. Each one carries a branded tag and Emma-Nicole's signature attention to detail. She was 12 when she made the first batch.

Chapter 4 — Creating Her Own Patterns

For years Emma-Nicole followed patterns from books and the internet, mastering increasingly complex designs. Recently, she started modifying existing patterns and creating entirely original ones — designing characters from scratch, calculating stitch counts, and engineering 3D shapes from flat yarn.

She has created hundreds of figures over the past five years — so many that most don't even have photos. From Pokémon to succulents, from teddy bears to dragons, each piece carries a little bit of her personality. And now, she's ready to share her patterns with the world.

What is Amigurumi?

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn creatures. The word combines "ami" (crocheted or knitted) and "nuigurumi" (stuffed doll). While the craft originated in Japan, it has grown into a worldwide creative movement.

Unlike knitting, which uses two needles, amigurumi is almost always made with a single crochet hook. Pieces are worked in continuous spiral rounds, stuffed with polyester fiberfill, and assembled into characters — animals, monsters, food, flowers, and anything the maker can imagine.

The magic of amigurumi is in its accessibility: with just a hook and some yarn, you can create an entire world of characters. It's meditative, portable, and deeply personal — every maker develops their own tension, style, and signature touches.
